The International Cricket Council (ICC) is gearing up to initiate the process of electing its next chairperson, with proceedings expected to begin in the coming weeks. This decision was among the key outcomes of the online ICC board meeting on Tuesday, August 20, reports Live Cricket Score.

The exact date for the election remains uncertain, as it hinges on whether there will be a contest for the position. An election will only be necessary if two or more nominations are submitted, in which case the process will likely occur in October.

“For the election to move forward, at least one additional candidate must enter the race, and it’s still unclear if there will be a contest,” said a source familiar with the situation.

Unlike the current chairperson, Greg Barclay, who was elected unopposed in November 2022 and is nearing the end of his two-year term, the incoming ICC chairperson will serve a three-year term. Barclay’s tenure will continue for a few more months before the new chair takes over.
