Defending champions and two-time winners, Sunrisers Eastern Cape will kick off the 2025 season of SA20 at their home ground, St. George’s Park in Gqeberha, with an exciting clash against MI Cape Town on Thursday, January 9. The fixtures for the third season of South Africa’s premier T20 league have been announced, confirming that the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the final on February 8. This marks the second time this iconic venue will stage the title decider in the competition’s brief history, reports Live Cricket Score.
The two-time runners-up, Pretoria Capitals and Durban Super Giants will face off at Kingsmead on the tournament’s second day. The first Saturday promises a thrilling double-header, with Paarl Royals taking on the defending champions in the day game and Joburg Super Kings debuting against MI Cape Town in the evening match at Newlands.
Following 30 league games, the top four teams in the standings will advance to the playoffs. Gqeberha will host Qualifier 1 on February 4, while SuperSport Park in Centurion will host post-league matches for the first time in the league’s history. The Eliminator will be set for February 5, and Qualifier 2 will be on February 6. The final will take place after a one-day break.
The third edition of SA20 will see the arrival of several star players, including former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, whose decision to join the Durban Super Giants led him to relinquish his New Zealand Cricket central contract. Meanwhile, Paarl Royals will add the experienced former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, alongside England’s legendary Joe Root, to their roster.
