Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhimanyu Easwaran have been named captains of the four squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. As reported by Cricbuzz, most of the players from India’s senior squads have been selected for the tournament’s first round, except Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and R Ashwin. Mohammed Shami, meanwhile, continues his rehabilitation.
Gill will captain Team A, which includes notable names such as Riyan Parag, KL Rahul, Shivam Dube, and Kuldeep Yadav. Team B, led by Easwaran, features Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant. Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been named in this squad, though his participation is contingent on his fitness.
Team C, captained by Gaikwad, boasts a strong batting lineup, including Suryakumar Yadav, Sai Sudharsan, and Rajat Patidar. Iyer leads a squad in Team D with players like Devdutt Padikkal, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh. Notably, Ishan Kishan also returns to action in this team, reports Live Cricket Score.
The BCCI confirmed that players selected for India’s home Test series against Bangladesh will be replaced in the Duleep Trophy squads. The tournament will begin on September 5, with Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur and Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium serving as the venues. The first-class competition will conclude on September 22.
