Mohammed Shami Set for Ranji Trophy Comeback After Injury Layoff
India’s premier pacer, Mohammed Shami, is set to make his highly anticipated return to competitive cricket in the upcoming Ranji Trophy. The Cricket Association of Bengal has confirmed that Shami will play in the match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, which begins on Wednesday, November 13, reports Live Cricket Score.
Shami last featured for India during the World Cup final in Ahmedabad in November 2023, marking a lengthy absence from the game due to injury. He initially underwent surgery for an Achilles heel issue, but his recovery was later complicated by knee swelling, delaying his return. Despite these setbacks, Shami participated in practice sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru alongside India’s Test match against New Zealand.
Shami’s return to action is a promising development for India, who are preparing for a demanding five-Test series in Australia beginning November 22. Although he is not currently named in the Test squad, captain Rohit Sharma expressed hope last month that Shami might be available for the tour. Should he prove his fitness, Shami could still join the squad as a key addition to India’s bowling lineup.
