Manoj Tiwary, a seasoned batter for India and Bengal, announced that he was retiring from all forms of cricket on Thursday (August 3).
“The game of cricket is over for me. From the days when various problems tested my life, this game has given me everything—I mean everything—that I could have ever imagined, “the 37-year-old posted a message on Instagram.
Tiwary made his international debut in an ODI in Brisbane in 2008 but was dismissed for a duck. After waiting an extra three years, he finally made another appearance for India, playing against the West Indies in Chennai and scoring his only century in international cricket. Only four more times, including a series in Zimbabwe in 2015, did Tiwary represent India after being dropped off the ODI team in 2012. West Bengal’s state minister for youth affairs and sports, Tiwary, has played often for his state and most recently guided them on their road to the Ranji Trophy final despite not being considered seriously in the national arena. The right-hander finished with nearly 9900 runs and a sparkling first-class career that saw him smash 29 hundred at an average of 48.56. This featured a top score of 303*, achieved in January 2022 against Hyderabad.
In addition, Tiwary participated in 98 IPL games. In the 2012 championship game against Chennai Super Kings, he scored the winning runs for Kolkata Knight Riders. One of his best IPL seasons was in 2017 when he helped Rising Pune Supergiant go to the championship game. However, after that campaign, he participated in just five more games.
