The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Aarya Desai of Gujarat for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season. The IPL issued a press release announcing the move. The statement read, “He joins KKR for INR 20 Lakh.” The statement made no mention of who he replaced on the team. However, as previously reported, KKR is missing Shakib Al Hasan, who missed the tournament due to international assignments and personal commitments. Desai, 20, made his First Class debut for Gujarat earlier this year.
Desai, a left-handed batter, made his first-class debut for Gujarat earlier this year. He has played three first-class matches and, in his second game, struck an impressive 114-ball 88 against Vidarbha in a game in which only one other batter on both sides managed to pass fifty. It’s also the match in which Gujarat was famously bowled out for 54 in their second innings while chasing 73, reports Live Cricket Score.
This season, the Knight Riders are without the services of Shreyas Iyer, who’s out with a back injury, and Shakib Al Hasan, who has opted out due to personal reasons. KKR has won two of their three games so far and is currently fourth in the points table.
