The proposed white-ball series between India and Afghanistan seems unlikely. In order to schedule the three-game ODI series between the World Test Championship final (from June 7 to 12) and a full-fledged series in the Caribbean from July 12 to August 13 that consists of two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, Live Cricket Score understands that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is having difficulty.
It’s understood that the original plan called for the three games to be played between June 20 and June 30, after which the team would depart for the Caribbean around July 7. According to BCCI insiders, the players won’t have enough rest before the World Cup in October-November because of the Asia Cup schedule, which is now anticipated to be approved in the next few days.
There are reportedly a few further reasons behind the change of heart, but BCCI officials declined to elaborate. The fact that the BCCI’s broadcast agreement with Disney Star has ended, and the new tender still needs to be released could be one explanation. An interim agreement is always a possibility, but it’s still being determined whether the board will secure the best deal before launching a formal tender for the bilateral series.
