The biggest domestic tournament in India is not yet finalized. The spread of coronavirus since March in the country and Galwan faceoff are posing questions to IPL 2020 to take place and the association with Vivo respectively. Besides, the decision of the World Cup taking place in Australia later this year still remains uncertain.
BCCI is waiting for a confirmation on the World Cup decision, so as to plan IPL during September-October, in case the WC is postponed. Alongside, the recent move of Indian government banning 59 Chinese apps after the June 15th faceoff made impact on review of sponsorship with Vivo.
The smooth association between the IPL board and Vivo has now become complex as the sponsoring mobile phone company is based in China. However, the governing board of cricket in India still believes that the sponsorship contract might continue until 2022 as usual, although a review is in place. In case of withdrawal from either party, the tie-up between PayTM or other options of sponsors and IPL board is likely to happen.
