Aakash Chopra talked about Shikhar Dhawan playing a vital role

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra talked about Shikhar Dhawan playing a vital role across all formats for India. Aakash also revealed his views on Dhawan’s future in Test cricket as an opener. He said that Dhawan has been playing test matches but there have been many players being tested recently in the opening position.

With seniority coming in place, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan were few players who have opened the batting for India in Test matches. Besides, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, and Hanuma Vihari have been put in at the opening in the recent Test batting innings. However Shikhar remained to be consistent across all formats of cricket.

Now, things have changed. There are many options in Indian opening pairs to open the batting in Tests. Aakash therefore reckons that 34-year old Shikhar Dhawan may or may not have a chance to play in the Test matches.

Dhawan has hit 7 centuries in 34 Tests that he played. The left-hander scored a total of 2,315 runs at an average of 40.61. His performances during 2018 remained slow and so he has been later left out of the Test squad. He last played in September 2018 in a Test match against England at The Oval.
