BCCI announces incentives for Test squad

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will convene its Annual Conference in Colombo later this month. The election for the chairman’s position is scheduled for November, which is not included in the agenda. This delay gives Jay Shah, a likely candidate for the role, three months to consider a potential move to Dubai, where the ICC headquarters currently reside, reports Live Cricket Score.

Shah has remained non-committal regarding his interest in the chairman’s role, currently held by Greg Barclay. Barclay, eligible for re-election, has garnered support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, Shah is expected to be elected unopposed if he decides to contest.

Earlier reports from Cricbuzz highlighted changes in the ICC chairman’s tenure, which is now set at two terms of three years each. If elected, Shah would serve a three-year term before becoming eligible, under BCCI rules, to run for the BCCI presidency in 2028.

International media speculates about Shah’s potential influence within the ICC, including the possibility of relocating the ICC headquarters from Dubai to Mumbai. However, Shah has not indicated this as a current priority. His focus, reportedly, is on reforming ICC operations following criticisms of the recent T20 World Cup’s organization in the USA and the West Indies.

At the upcoming Annual Conference, details regarding the chairman election timeline are expected to be finalized. Additionally, elections for three Associate Member Directors will occur on July 19, with eleven candidates vying for the positions. These directors, serving two-year terms, represent Associate members globally, with the voting process employing electronic voting or, if necessary, manual secret ballot.

Among the candidates, Mubashshir Usmani of the UAE and Sankar Renganathan, representing Sierra Leone and proposed by Germany, stand out as strong contenders. Usmani’s involvement in the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) and his support among Associate members bolster his candidacy, while Renganathan’s extensive international connections and vision for empowering Associates highlight his platform.

Ultimately, 45 Associate members from diverse regions will participate in the election, reflecting the ICC’s commitment to inclusivity and global representation in cricket governance.
