Chetan Sharma resigns as BCCI chief selector

Following a sting operation by a television channel in which he made alarming allegations, Chetan Sharma announced his resignation as the chairman of the national selection committee on Friday. According to Sportstar, Jay Shah, the convenor of the national selection panel and BCCI secretary, received Sharma’s resignation letter, which was later accepted. Sharma was in Kolkata for the Ranji Trophy final up till Thursday. On Friday, Sharma failed to show up at Eden Gardens.

According to the BCCI constitution, the senior member who first played for India shall be named chairman. Salil Ankola, who made his Test debut in 1989, or even Shiv Sundar Das, who has played in more Tests than the remaining selectors, might be chosen by the BCCI as a replacement for Sharma once he leaves.

According to Live Cricket Score, The Board anticipates announcing Sharma’s departure in due course. The BCCI officials eventually agreed that it wouldn’t be appropriate for Sharma to continue, despite their initial disagreement about what action to take against him. Many people believed that Sharma was the victim of a sting operation.

Sharma made a joke about Indian athletes improving their fitness by getting injections during the undercover operation. He also discussed the “ego” conflicts between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, the previous BCCI president. It is understood that Sharma’s remarks angered the team management because many believed it would be impossible for the players to earn back their trust.
